An Afternoon Stroll | Camellia

Today, as my spring break is starting to wind down, I decided to go for a stroll.  What would be better than a stroll through Brookside Gardens?  I took quite a few photos, as I always do, but I decided I’d share one here because I was so taken with it.

When I lived in North Carolina, I was obsessed with growing camellias and gardenias.  They are gorgeous shrubs, and I knew exactly where I wanted them to grow, but they never flourished in my designated spot. See that area was mostly red clay.  And even though I’d removed quite a bit of the clay and replaced it with topsoil, it still wasn’t enough to ensure they grew big and strong.  Instead they didn’t grow at all, but they did bloom.  The first couple of years big beautiful blossoms, however as the years processed the blooms got smaller.  I didn’t know what to do  that probably wouldn’t kill them altogether.

Then we moved, so I don’t know what came of my little garden.  I’ll have another garden.  There will be lots of gardenias and camellias.  Hopefully next time I’ll have better luck.

Anyway, it’s in my dinner window, so I should go and cook something.  I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
