Childhood Ambitions

When you were 10, what did you want to be when you grew up? What are you now? Are the two connected?

When I was 10, I wanted more than anything to be a computer programmer.  I loved my computer classes. My school used to have the old school Macintosh’s.  (OMG, do you remember floppy disks?)  Now looking back they were a dinosaur, however back then they felt like the best stuff ever.

Now I am an IT student.  But instead of programming, my focus is security.  I’ll leave the coding to the younger generation.  I enjoy coding, to a degree, but not that much.  I don’t have the brain capacity for it anymore lol.  It’s hard to remember all that is necessary to do coding.  So I’ll let someone else do the coding and I’ll manipulate the application once its complete to secure the network.

So what about you?  What did you want to be when you grew up?  Did you succeed or did life lure you down another path?

  1. Wanted to be a nurse because I loved the white cap and the white dress, then wanted to be a detective after reading Nancy Drew, then wanted to be a writer after reading so many books, then wanted to be a teacher then ended up washing toilet bowls and now unemployed.
