Write about whatever you’d like, but write using regional slang, your dialect, or in your accent.
Okay, so I don’t actually say howdy, but I do say y’all. That is what happens when you spend the majority of your life in North Carolina. Suddenly you realized that you’ve traded your “youse” for “y’all”. I don’t even know when it happened.
I do remember however how much I got teased as a child because I sounded differently from everyone else. I’m assuming at some point I started saying y’all because everyone else did. As time passed I lost the majority of my NY accent, and today I don’t think I have much of an accent at all. However, my son likes to call me out all the time for when I am sounding New York. He’ll be like “Did you talk to Auntie Aprill today? Because your accent is back and you are sounding New York again” lol.
There are certain words that I apparently say that he says sound New York on a regular basis, like the way I say fork, door, dog, etc. I guess ‘O’ words in general. I find that country accents are grating, so I am pretty sure I didn’t pick up a North Carolina accent. I think I may have just balanced out my New York accent enough to where I Mostly don’t have one lol.
So where are you from? Have you ever heard anyone tell you that you have an accent? (BTW, people are used to hearing themselves talk all he time and don’t hear the accent, it is usually people from out of your region that hear it)
