A Builders Delight

This weeks photo prompt is Treat.  I debated this one for a long time.  And to most, this wouldn’t seem like much of a treat but it is a huge treat for me.

My son has a Physics project due.  He has to build a catapult.  It has to shoot at minimum 5 meters, you can’t use springs, and it has to be triggered without touching the actual catapult.  You can’t touch it once it’s been set.  This is what he came up with.

I helped him of course.  The man at Home Depot did the long cuts.  I did the cut out in the support arm and the base and chiseled it out so that it would fit flush.  We did most of the construction together.  We built it on Thursday and we finished it today.  This has been quite a treat.  We tested it in the house with a blue ball that was about the same size and weight as the pumpkins.  But it was bouncy so that it wouldn’t do any damage to the walls.

We did a lot of testing, trying to get the trigger mechanism and power just right.  She shoots about 20 feet, about 4 feet more than what is necessary.  She’s little, but she’s powerful.  The trigger is an old clothes hanger and a shoe string lol.  It sounds ghetto, but it works perfect.

I love building things, always have.  This was so much fun.  But I am grateful that it is over now… The arm fell on my thumb today, and it hurts… so I’m done lol.

I hope you enjoyed my interpretation of this weeks “Daily Post”.  Have a wonderful weekend every.  See you tomorrow.
