How Are You Today?

Well, It’s Thursday.  Nothing to say about that…

I have a full schedule of homework and reading.  Half of my homework is done.  Thank God.  I stayed up until almost midnight last night wrapping up the last of my series of Fundamentals of Database Systems quizzes.  The school uses this program, it tests you to see how much you know, and if you don’t know a whole lot you get a series of nodes that teach you different aspects of the course and you have to work your way through them.  Each node has 2 quizzes that equal 13 questions.  (More if you are taking a math class.)  Database systems are complicated, so even though I’d gotten about 60% of the determining knowledge questions correct, I had 9 or 10 nodes I had to work my way through.  Oh, and reading the weeks reading doesn’t prepare you for these questions… not even a little.  So that was fun 😐 (said no one ever!).

We had a quick little impromptu class last night.  30 minutes long, just to get us started on this weeks ERD assignment.  I should be working on that now.  I am in denial.  Let me live there in peace please.

Yesterday I spent some time working on my husband computer.  I need Visio for school, I had a free copy that the school gave me a couple of semesters ago, but I couldn’t use it on my Mac.  So that left his computer.  When I went to use it I noticed something was off.  A couple of months ago it auto-updated to Windows 10.  I’d never used Windows 10, but I knew something wasn’t right.  After some troubleshooting, I discovered my Norton Firewall was blocking some of the features, like the start menu.  It works fine now, Andre didn’t know anything was wrong, so he never thought to notify me.  I downloaded Visio, but I haven’t used it yet.  The reason….

My husband has a Zune.  Microsoft’s little version of the iPod.  He loves that damn thing and I couldn’t get it away from him.  Microsoft is doing away with Zune in November.  If you own your music you can keep using it, but you won’t be able to buy new music.  So I am forcefully transitioning him to iTunes.  I decided to convert his music for use with an iPod.  Microsoft uses a Digital Rights Management (DRM) policy that keeps you from taking music away from their service if you are renting it.  It also affects music you buy from them.  So I have to strip off the DRM and convert it to AAC (iTunes format) so that it can be used by iTunes.  That is what I am still working on.  He has a LOT of music… so it may take a few days.

I’m tired.  I need to at least work on my labs today.  I also need to go to Target and pick up some of Andre’s Christmas presents that I ordered online for pick up.  (I had a coupon)  Video games are too expensive to buy all at once, it is rather traumatizing actually.  But I bought all the games on his Christmas list, even his recent add which was technically after the end of September cut off for Christmas lists.  I wonder how long it will take him to beat them all?

So that’s it.  I am going to sit here for a bit, watch DVR for an hour and take some allergy meds because I slept with the window open and am now pretty miserable.  Then off to Target and back to do some homework.  I hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Until tomorrow… bfn!

    1. Everyone shops at their own pace for the holidays. I don’t like to deal with the crowds, or the slow down in shipping during the holidays so I tend to shop early. I am usually done by Black Friday (more like Cyber Monday). I wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to get clothes. When William is home, I’ll send him out for last minute stuff, because he loves the rush he gets on Black Friday.
