If you are wondering what the title is all about, this is the 1st term, 1st semester, and 1st week at my new school.  I was able to transfer about half of my credits from my old school to my new school.  It would have been more had I stuck with Networking.  However, I hated networking.  CCNA sucked!  I really enjoyed Security though and am now steering my education down a security, cybersecurity, forensic track.  Some of my new classes will include computer forensics, hacking, and coding.  I’m really looking forward to it.

This new school has 5 1/2 week classes instead of 12 week classes, which I hope I’ll like.  I found with my other online school, after about 6 weeks I was over it and ready for a change.  12 week classes were long, drawn out, and mentally exhausting.

This new school also provides more intereactive ways to be educated which I hope will work better for me.  I enjoy reading, but I do not learn by reading alone.  I originally chose my (first) school over the one I’ll be going to now because they offered more hands on instruction.  The teachers didn’t just teach, but found ways to help the information stick to any student.  I had an Environmental Science teacher that created a game to help you better understand the economics of third world countries.  It was all very interesting.  These different techniques help me retain the information I’m gathering, better, which made making A’s easy.  However once I moved and went online only, I had a hard time making those, now not so easy A’s.  I got them, but I had to read (and sometimes re-read) chapters to get that same level of retention.  A lot of note taking, a lot of scribbling in the margins… my nose was almost always stuck in a book.

Now, I have options… podcasts, live-lessons with chat capabilities, amongst other things.  I feel good about it.  A year ago I would have said, stay far far away from online schools.  Hell a year ago I probably did say that.  I hated it.  I didn’t feel like I was actually learning anything.  I never got to spend time with my family.  We never got to go out and do anything.  School soaked up so much of my time and energy that I had to really talk myself into going back.  Then I re-considered one of the schools I had considered when I first decided to go back to school, and I was pleasantly surprised.

I’m starting slow to get a feel for the pace.  So only one class this term.  I’ll take two in the next term, and if that works out I’ll maybe make it three next semester.  I am taking Introduction to IT (Principles of Information Systems) this term.  There is a lot of information to absorb before actually starting the assignments for the week.  This school operates slightly different from my last one.  So wish me luck!

For now I’m going to finish watching Thursday’s episode of Bones (I’m a little backlogged on the DVR having been going for a week) and then I’ll hit the books (ebook, no hitting necessary) and get prepared for tomorrow mornings live lesson.  I still have to make Easter dinner as well, but that won’t take too long.  I’ve already done the prep this morning.  I hope everyone has a wonderful day, and a great Easter holiday.  BFN!

BTW, I included a morning, pre-sunrise, sky photo for your enjoyment… I do hope you enjoy it!
