Bittersweet End to Summer

As a kid, were you happy or anxious about going back to school? Now that you’re older, how has your attitude toward the end of the summer evolved?

I always dreaded having to go back to school at the end of the summer.  I liked the freedom of playing with my friends all day and there was nothing about sitting in boring classes all day that made me want to go back…. some things never change.

Now that I am an adult with a child of my own you would think I would be excited for the end of summer.  But I am not.

The end of the summer for me is bittersweet.  I look forward to the cooler temps that come along with fall and welcome the changing of the leaves.  However, I do not look forward to my son going back to school.  Neither does he to tell the truth.  I love having him around the house.  I love being able to spend time with him during the summer months and not have to harp on him about doing homework and grades.

He doesn’t seem excited about going back either.  However, usually once he’s started he is happy.  Happy to see his friends.  Happy for whatever class he signed up for that he actually wanted to take.  This year that class is anatomy.  So, even though he is making comments about being back in prison for 9 more months, I think he is happy.  At least for now.  As for me, I am a little excited to have the house to myself again.  However I have to wait until my husband goes back to work to enjoy it lol.
