All and Nothing at the Same Time

The internet has recently been swept up by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Is there a cause — social, political, cultural, or other — you passionately believe in? Tell us how you got involved — or why you don’t get involved.

I am not involved in any social, political, or cultural cause.  I stay as far away from politics as possible because it is all bullshit.  Even a politician with the best intentions eventually becomes corrupt.  They always forget about the people who elected them and opt to do whatever the hell they want rather than what they promised.  That said…

I will donate money to children’s and animal charities.  I’d like to think if I had the time and patience I would volunteer at no kill shelters.  However I also know if I started volunteering at places like that I would eventually start dragging home the doggies because I wouldn’t be able to stand leaving them there.  Those little faces melt your heart.  I donate to children’s charities because they are babies and children… they deserve everything.  There is nothing more heartbreaking than sick or neglected children.  I’ll also drop school supplies and Christmas presents in the bins at the front of Wal-Mart when they are collecting.

wwpI think the only adult charities that I donate money to are Veterans or military  charities.  Otherwise, I donate clothing when I see clothing drives.  I’ll donate food to the food bank or when I know there has been a disaster, like the wild fires when we lived in Colorado.  My husband seems to think that lingering Catholic guilt makes me do those things.  I don’t think that is it at all.  I just think about how I would feel if a tornado or wildfire took everything and left nothing but rubble and pain.  I would hope someone would reach out to us, even if it were just to offer food or a change of clothes.  I will not, however, donate to overseas causes.  We have our own people right here in America that need help.  Why would I donate money to tsunami victims in Japan when we have people right here in America that are homeless and suffering?

As you can tell, I don’t support any particular cause.  However, I am not heartless.  I do try to do my part, even if it is spread out amongst many things rather than just one.
