I Had Other Plans

Back on January 21st, we asked you to predict what day #211 would be like. Well, July 30th is that day — how have your predictions held up so far? If you didn’t reply to the prompt at the time, is this year turning out to be as you’d expected?

21stWell, I wasn’t around on January 21st to predict what today would be like.  So my question would be, is this year turning out to be as you’d expected?  The answer to this question…

Not quite.

When the new year began, I’d really hoped that I would have been working by summer.  I had it in my head that I would find a level I or level II help desk job in the spring or at least by summer.  I really wanted to get back into the work force and get my feet wet.  I wanted to at least be able to get my grunt work done before graduation. That didn’t work out quite as I’d planned.

I decided to leave my Network Routing classes until the spring and summer semesters.  They are time-consuming.  I couldn’t imagine working a full 8 hour day and then coming home to reading 50 – 100 pages on routing and security.  When you come home you want to unwind, and spend time with your family, not read and do homework.  So I put looking for a help desk job on the back burner.  School is more important right now.  Especially since school is coming to an end and I am trying to figure out what I will do when it is over.

If I could predict what January 21st of next year would be like, I’d say I will be back in school, working towards my Bachelors degree studying for my certifications exams.  But really… who knows what the future holds.  A year ago I would never have guessed that I would be living in Maryland.  My plans at that time were to finish school and go to CTU for my Bachelors.  Now I am trying to find a college here in Maryland instead.

Goes to show, planning for the future means very little.  The future has its own plans for you.
