There’s No Place Like Home

We got back a few hours ago and I have never been so happy to be back in my own space.

We had a great time with the family (and a few friends of the family).  Mostly.  I don’t handle crowds well and there were way too many people at the cookout.  I spent most of the week trying to get myself mentally ready for it.  I wasn’t ready.  The fact that I’m allergic to cigarette smoke kept me away from the majority of the family for longs periods of time.  Almost all of my husband’s family smokes, in great contrast to my family.  The heat got to me as well, so by time dinner was ready I was pretty nauseated and truthfully, ready to go back to the hotel to lay down.  However, I don’t get to see any family very often and it was nice to be around most of them.

By 9pm, our ages began to show and everyone decided to call it a night.  I’m sure my in-laws were happy about getting their house back lol.  There were 22 people floating about their house at any given moment.  I was overwhelmed so I am sure that they were too.  We all cleared out within 15 minutes of each other.

This morning the 9 of us (My family, my husband’s brother’s family, and the in-laws) met up at Denny’s for breakfast.  We had a great meal, great conversation, and said our goodbyes.  It was time for us all to hit the road.  Though not before making plans to drive down to Fairfax tomorrow.  My husband’s brother is retiring from the Marine Corps this week and we want to spend some time with them before they PCS back to Florida next weekend.  Who knows when we will all get together again.

So that was my holiday weekend at a glance.  I’m off to wash my hair, I pulled it down this morning and it smelled like an ashtray.  I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th.  BFN!!
