Back To School

The new school year is just about 2 weeks away.  I’m so not ready LOL.  I have enjoyed having my monkey around the house this summer.  He’s been trying to talk me into homeschooling again.  But I can’t do it.  He’s going into the 8th grade this year, which means High School is too close to be having him fall behind now.  Not that he fell behind last time, but his math is getting more and more complicated with each passing year, and I just can’t help him with it.  We didn’t learn the stuff he’s having to learn now and it just doesn’t make sense to my tiny archaic brain LOL.

Why are the school supply lists so complicated?  Not only do I have to provide him with supplies, which I don’t mind, but I also have to outfit the office?  I mean 6 reams of Copy paper, Paper Towels, Tissues, Hand sanitizer, Dry erase markers and cleaner, that’s most of the list, at least what I can remember of it.  I understand the economy sucks, but guess what??? It didn’t just effect the schools, it’s effected us too.  I can’t afford to pay almost $200 a year in school supplies.  I definitely couldn’t afford it this year.  But that’s what I just spent.  Absolutely ridiculous.  And I know that they’ll ask for more stuff after school starts.  Each teacher makes up their own lists of things you’ll need for their class.  Why can’t they just email you the friggin individual lists before school starts.  Last year I spent almost another $50 on supplies after school started because of the lists.  I can’t do that this year.

This year my 3 year old refrigerator back in NC broke down… $183, last I heard.  (I added it to the warranty so I don’t have to worry about it again after this)  Lucy has been sick… We’re almost at $300, with more tests and visits to go, not to mention she has to get shots next month (I wish we could add her to Tricare).  Then $275 in repairs to the siding on the house back in NC.  I gotta love David though, because had it not been for him I’d have been out twice that.  I think I need to sell that house.  Anyway… I can’t afford to keep having to buy crap for this school.  Especially when I still have to buy Andre a new pair of glasses for the new school year.  Why are glasses so damn expensive?  I kept putting it off and putting it off, now I can’t any longer.  These are the times I wish we used credit cards… but we don’t.

Okay, now how did I start whining about expenses? LOL  Sorry about that.

My baby is an 8th grader this year?  Which means High School is literally around the corner.  I’m not ready LOL.  We have open house at his school early Tuesday morning.  I can’t wait to find out who his new teachers are, I know two of them I hope he never gets again.  His Math teacher from last year and his literature/history teacher.  His old math teacher has a stick up her ass, and she gets on my nerves.  His Lit/His teacher couldn’t find her ass with 3 mirrors and a magnifying glass.  She misplaced Andre’s school work so many times then would report his work as late.  I’d have to harass her to dammit death to get her to look for it, and she almost always found it in her bag.  I’d be too happy to never see either one of them again.  I keep checking the website, but they haven’t posted it yet, so I guess I’ll have to wait til Tuesday.

Okay, I guess I’m just doing a lot of rambling lol.  Lots of stuff running through my head today.  I have to get going now, I need to call up to the school to find out if I can drop off office supplies on Tuesday when I come in.  They’re taking up an awful lot of space.  Bye for now 🙂

  1. Gee the list alone makes me want to freak and I don’t have kids in school anymore. It might just be cheaper to get him a math tutor and homeschool him again. Those fees are crazy.

  2. I have two school aged children, with one still preschool age. My husband and I always are amazed at the lists. This year we had to buy a thumb drive for them too! I homeschooled them one year, and while I loved being with them, I am not a teacher. I think I made my oldest hate math.

    1. Thanks for popping by my blog. I get that the economy sucks and schools are hurting but so are we. The states need to budget their monies better and stop depending on parents to supply schools.

It's your turn to say something... What do you think?
