Yesterday was a pretty good day. It was my baby’s birthday how could it be bad? His birthday falls during the spring intersession so unless we have a party with his class he & I usually do something together. In the past when it’s fallen on the weekend, we’ve had big family bbq’s and invited all the family in NC to come. But for the last 3 or 4 years, it’s just been him & I since William is usually deployed or off training so we’ve started a new tradition. One that seems to make him just as happy. That being said…..
Yesterday we went to see TMNT. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was okay. Took too long to get interesting and I gotta admit there for a minute I was about to pull out my book and start reading. But once it did get interesting, it held your attention. Did I mention that the good part only lasted about 20 maybe 30 minutes and the movie lasted about an hour and 16 minutes. Hard to tell though since I did watch 20 minutes worth of previews before the movie even stared. (Yes I was checking my watch) However, in the grand scheme of things, he enjoyed it thoroughly and that is all that mattered. They even gave him a TMNT poster which he happily hung on his bedroom wall when we got home.
After the movie, per tradition, we went over to party city. He picked out 9 green balloons (1 for every year of his precious little life) and while we waited we walked around looking at all the party stuff they had to offer. Way too many party favors later we left and headed home. (Word to the wise, make sure they don’t over inflate any balloons when you pick them up. One popped in the car on the way home and like to scared the pure crap out of me.)
His special birthday dinner request is always the same, don’t know why I even ask anymore lol. I cooked spaghetti and meatballs and we sang “happy birthday” over a Carvel ice cream cake. He got a video game for his birthday. Burnout Dominator. He’s been wanting that game since he saw last month that they were putting out 2 more games in the burnout series. Also he got a Nintendo Wii, which we actually gave to him last month when we had his early birthday celebration at Chucky Cheeses in anticipation for William’s departure. He never left… Army screwed up his paperwork. But that’s another story for another day.
I didn’t get any good pictures however. When we got home he decided to sneak out back and play with the water hose, so when it was time for the cake he was in his t’shirt, underwear, & socks. Couldn’t post a picture of that now could I?
Anyway, he had a great day. He told me he loves his birthday cause we get to do everything he loves to do, and he gave me a big hug. I am glad he enjoyed himself…. He even let me beat him playing Burnout. Once anyway.
